Op Is Saying That Therapy Is The Wrong Tool To Use Against Bigotry, Not That No Bigot Can Ever Change

Op is saying that therapy is the wrong tool to use against bigotry, not that no bigot can ever change their beliefs. If a rich person believed ‘poor people are poor because they’re born genetically inferior’, that belief likely wouldn’t cause them problems in their day to day life. It’s probable that it wouldn’t come up at all and it’s not really a therapists job to make them confront that belief or change it in any way if they’re fine holding that belief (ie the belief isn’t pathological). That doesn’t mean the belief can’t be changed *at all*- Evangelical Christianity is an ideology that therapy isn’t supposed to fix but it’s something a person can be talked in or out of believing through books, dialogue with peers etc.

you cannot therapize misogyny out of a man because values are not pathologies. him not believing women are human will not be fixed by cbt or exposure therapy because it is not a cognitive health issue. it is an ideological one.

I mean. 150 years is a long time from now- everyone on this site would be dead for sure. The average human lifespan is about 70 so it’d be I guess another 3 generations? 3 generations where women who were silenced by the Taliban can speak, where no one is forced to give birth and every child is wanted, where significantly less people are raped (as rape is seen akin to torture), where no girls undergo genitalia mutilation, no girls are forced into marriage, women around the world are free to pursue education and no assumption is made about their competence. The death of the Quiverfull movement and no girl ever again told she exists to be a helpmeet, nor that she is the cause of the world’s ills or that her body tempts males who do not have the ability to control themselves.

And that’s the shit I’m thinking of now- the shit that matters to me personally. The world could end in 3 lifetimes anyway at least this apocalyptic scenario makes less people suffer before the end.

if you could automatically delete all misogyny in the world: like it never existed in the first place, from all cultures and across all aspects of life, but at the cost of human life existing only for the next 150 years, would you? You get rid of no more issues, capitalism and racism still exist, but misogyny doesn't, from the most violent to the most banal, but in 150 years humanity will cease to exist, not painfully or violently, just cease to exist, would you do it?

Yea, Next Question.

Yea, next question.

Actually hilarious how the beating your partner defenders get so aghast and offended by sexuality being based on sex traits. Like out of one side of their mouth they'll say it's totally normal to want to strangle your partner and the next they'll say 'only liking pussy is a result of social values that you have to deconstruct and is frankly harmful.'

You know what’s funny?

In the early ‘10s there was this idea of ‘color blindness’ among white people- not actual color blindness but the sentiment, ‘I don’t see race’ as a solution to racism. We kind of realized that saying that doesn’t actually solve anything? It usually just makes you refuse to acknowledge racism exists both in you and the world around you ie ‘I can’t be racist, I don’t even see race. I just see people <3 The lack of black people in my employment is merely a coincidence and I’d totally hate white illegals immigrants just as much as their nonwhite counterparts it’s just about respecting the law.’ Acknowledging race to them was often, ‘being the real racist.’

We now have a situation where people are ‘sex blind’ they don’t even see female people they just see people <3. And what’s funny is race is significantly more ambiguous- there’s actually arguments one could make about not referring to race during discussions of police brutality. I’d disagree with those arguments but they’d at least have some vigor, meanwhile abortion bans exclusively impact people based on sex but we’re supposed to pretend it’s effect is on this general notion of ‘people’. ‘People affected by police brutality’ and ‘people with the capacity to become pregnant’ come from the same damn place.

I kind of don’t think Man Identified Females should be in female sports. They are still females, but they’re females who’re on steroids that in any other context would be considered doping.

They’re Not Sending Their Best

they’re not sending their best

This may be controversial, SO BE WARNED! OPINION ALERT! But I think with the state of patriarchal violence and how Hollywood treats women and girls i think it's safe to assume that most if not all sex scenes in movies and shows is probably sa on the actress. With rape scenes its not even a question.

"Men in dresses are seen as bad, but women in pants aren't!"

is not the statement that "men can't be feminine but women can be masculine in society" that you think it is.

Let me introduce: women with facial hair. Full beards. Mustaches. Bald women. Bodybuilder women. Women with visible body hair. These aren't "more acceptable" than men in dresses.

Pants don't have a gendered association anymore, while dresses do. There is something to be said for that, but it certainly ISN'T "masculine women are acceptable now."

Sadly people got too tolerant of Christianity we need the mythical annoying atheists to make a comeback we need to make this the summer of atheism "don't talk to me about your magical book" should be rolling off the tongue way more often....

I have preestablished biases and beliefs about the world, I acknowledge that and am willing to adjust with new information shared.
