I don't think Will ever really knew how he'd be feeling until the very moment he found Hannibal. Sat next to him, watched his face struggling to believe he's really there and he doesn't need to hold onto an imagination of him. Realized what he feels for Hannibal is something more than a twisted codependent friendship. He literally struggles with a huge wave of feelings all during their talk and it's so heartbreaking.
