s5+ adrien agreste is like. what if the fridged wife was actually a zany teenage boy who we held at gunpoint until he forfeited all agency and plot relevance. but he stayed silly.
[ID: Two images of art of Marinette Dupain-Cheng from Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Chat Noir. In the first image, there are 7 headshots of Marinette, all of them smiling softly, with different hairstyles, masks, and eye colors for her Ladybug outfit, with text describing each. The first headshot is labeled, “0. A Marinette for comparison.” The next says, “1. Classic Ladybug,” where she has her original pigtails and mask. The next is labeled “2.” and describes her changed appearance as having “higher pigtails, ribbons as antenna, eyes become black.” The next headshot is labeled, “3.” and says she has a “ponytail, ribbons as antenna, eyes become red like an anime character.” The next is labeled, “4.” and says she has a “bun, ribbons as antenna, black and white mask like the face of a ladybug, purely white eyes (like spiderman lol.)” The next is labeled, “5.” and says she has “two braids, antenna attached to mask,” and “fully black eyes.” The last is labeled “6.” and says she has her “hair pushed back, antenna attached to mask,” and her “irises are white & sclera black.” The text also says, “honestly the look i go for with my akumabug design.”
The next image is the same as the first, but without the text. End ID]
marinette… my beloved… i think she’s really cute with the original pigtails and red mask, but i was thinking about how chat noir changes a lot about his appearance when he transforms, including eyes, hairstyle, the cat ears, etc… so i just drew a bunch of alternatives of her outfit all together! ladybugs in particular are such a nice theme, because bugs have that creepy/cool factor because they’re just very different than humans, but they can also be really cute! especially with their compound eyes!!!
number 4 with the bun and black mask is usually what i go for when drawing a redesign of her outfit, but i’m fond of the alternatives here too.
as a bonus:
[ID: Ladybug with the redesign of her appearance from the above images, with braids and fully black eyes. Her eyes are big and shiny, as if about to cry, and her antenna are down as she pouts. Chat Noir is looking at her and says, “bug i’m sorry i won’t overuse the kitty eyes please just stop making that face.” End ID]
making marinette similar to the main antagonist is interesting for sure you know i thought it was on purpose in the sense of the protagonist and antagonist being foils. a way to connect marinette and gabriel beyond just through adrien. kind of the point of doing that though is to define to the audience how though they're so similar, the protagonist has made different choices or has a character trait that changed their path from what the villain has done. but in this case marinette and gabriel are both control freaks who dole out power and take it away. knowing the persons identity but not vice versa, they're fashion designers who just want to "protect xyz" or whatever. both of them are lying to adrien for the "greater good." y'all what the Fuck is going on. im so serious. it's not marinettes fault this happened because shes literally such a good character when the writing room isn't obsessed with bending the universe to make gabriel win. can someone on that team get over that their kids left them and accept they're a bad father already it's getting serious
i need to join a ml discord server because right now i force my friends to listen to me rant and they dont even like miraculous ladybug at all. but also i know im such a hater that i cant join any in fear of me being a total grinch and ruining peoples fun. but i also cant join hater servers because if i see any character bashing ill be the one with a bunch of grinches ruining MY fun. you see my dilemma.
like there's just so much going on in miraculous ladybug like it's a baby kids show that has akumas every week and is funny and has cute romance which is what i expected and i assume most people wanted. and then it also has insane themes from things such as having a miraculous that has a power of creating designer babies forced to do whatever you want; which is not inherently bad i actually think it's a fascinating topic to explore but maybe in a horror movie. not the baby kids show that is mainly a feel good romance? i suppose the idea is to make it more similar to avatar and other family focused shows where it is both fun but has adult themes that cater to parents watching, but in this case they could handle their more adult themes with like a smidgen more care than they do. instead they introduce shit like sentimonsters and waffle on the morality of doing stuff like: killing them. GIRL‼️ this is a baby kids show we're teaching children MORALS‼️ murder is bad guys. unless the heroes do it 💖
miraculous ladybug sucks but the one thing that was fun was that marinette has two love interests that play the femme fatale (chat noir: fun but dangerous, flirty, oh no he's trying to tempt me into giving away my identity, literally based on black cat) and the ingenue (adrien: innocent and naive, passive role, oh no they know nothing of the world so i must protect them, etc.) which are typically foils. but it turns out these two love interests that she must choose between - are the same person. instead of two stock tropes that she must choose between (the innocence and safety of her civilian life versus the dangerous adventure of superhero life) she must reconcile and choose both. and then they added luka because they were bored.
i really do need miraculous to timeskip 20 years in the future idgaf about adrienette rn but i do care about their toxic marriage so badly. but i don't want to write it myself. i think it'd be like a psychological horror on both ends. like marinette loving adrien but over the course of years and years isn't sure where the love ends and the guilt begins. it's too late to come clean now. etc. is she with him because she truly cares about him or is it because she can't bring herself to harm him in anyway? is there a difference? on the other end if adrien ever found out he was a senti and marinette knew and didn't inform him for years, there's some insane psychological horror of knowing ur s/o was fully capable of giving you orders in some way without you knowing and there's no way to prove she did or did not. nothing but trust which has immediately been broken because she lied for 20 yrs or whatever. (stares off into the distance) they should be the main characters in a victorian short story they make freshman read and annotate in English class . and instead it's ml
Hhhate it when people on my side of an argument are making bad points. You’re literally right why are you being stupid about it
don't ever remind me of miraculous ladybug it's that serious to me. I treat the writing of ml like being in the damn navy.
i hate miraculous ladybug but i disagree with everyone else who hates miraculous ladybug and that's my true real problem. no video essay does it for me because they're literally wrong (because my opinion is always right btw) and every salt blog is wrong. "adrien should be the main protagonist" wrong. "the biggest problem is marinette being a stalker" wrong bad faith argument not understanding the genre (though it is a valid criticism to be uncomfortable with it personally) "marinette is a mary sue" literally wrong. "adrien is a gary stu" wrong. "adrien sucks and this is why marinette should get with some random guy named robin." what the fuck are you talking about.
