Finn (John Boyega) is even more underdeveloped, and “The Last Jedi” saddles him with a plot that has literally no impact on the actual course of the movie and provides him with no discernible character development: The whole thing could have been excised from the film, and the only difference would have been a zippier run time, a smaller special-effects budget and a tighter story.
they. sidelined. finn. (via paige-tic0)
Trust me he is still a lead said the lying bitch RJ. He sidelined him with comic relief bs while having Rey fantasize about Kylo and then tried to toss Rose at Finn to kill FinnRey. Look I dont have a problem with FinnRose in the abstract since but its clear the only reason Rose is here is to help make sure Finn fans dont get anything they want. No Force Powers (he has a random kid show powers as one last fuck you to Finn Fans). No Arc (despite lying about it). And Rose is there to try to make us forget about Rey so he can cram Reylo down our throats not for any progressive reason or because the relationship has real value. RJ went in the goal to emasculate Finn and Poe and prop up Kylo.
I felt sympathy for Anakin but he still needed to die. The problem is why should I feel empathy for Kylo besides him being a SkySolo and a White Male? There is no other good reason. He grew up Rich with the Force and his biggest issues were his parents worked and his uncle didn't tell him about Darth Vader? Rey grew up sold into shit conditions on a desert backwater. Finn and millions of other as Child Soldiers ripped from their parents. Rose apparently lost her parents and her sister. And I am suppose to feel bad for Kylo. No there is no redemption strong enough. At least Anakin was a slave, who wanted to save his wife and kids and snapped after watching his mother die.
I always have to laugh when I see posts like “when Reylo becomes canon, then all of the antis will see the error of their ways.”
Because that will seriously never happen. I’m not going to say that it’s completely impossible for someone to write a redemption arc that is SO powerful that it wins me over. But the odds are seriously against it.
And honestly, even if they did somehow successfully redeem Kylo Ren to my satisfaction, I STILL wouldn’t be happy seeing him paired with one of his victims.
Most likely, even if LucasFilms does make the incredibly ghastly mistake of making Reylo canon, I will go to my grave screaming about all of the deaths at Kylo Ren’s hands..
I still haven’t shut up about Grimm pairing their lead character with a serial rapist. I’m not going to shut up about this either.
Canon isn’t a cure-all for a fucked up ship.
I am annoyed how they always crap on the PT Jedi yes they screwed up in the end but they kept it together for 1000 Generations or 20,000 years or so that is pretty good record. Luke couldn't even make it to 20.
But yeah the idea Luke would totally copy the Old Jedi Order and make no changes is just weird.
Why do people believe that Luke’s Jedi Order would be the exact same as the Old Jedi Order?
JJ is the lesser of two evils that is all it is. Although I should note the coma was RJ request so that is not on JJ but of course JJ had plenty of issues all his own doing. However, at least JJ wasn't an apologist for Kylo. But yeah the only POC with any power seems to be Pablo Hidalgo incidentally he was also unlike KK and RJ not making every excuse under the sun for Kylo. Make of it what you will.
I don't understand why some fans think JJ Abrams will save Finn's arc when this man also made Finn be attacked during the entire movie, be a red herring and end the movie in a coma. The entire lucasfilm is guilty in this, they need more black artists to work in their movies or black characters will always be treat like this
the lesser of two evils. while JJ had many many flaws, he also gave us a great character in Finn and all those FS clues etc etc. rian doesnt even have one redeeming quality going for him. so when its rian vs. jj - of course everyone wants jj back. but ur point still stands. there needs to be more black people behind the camera.
Yeah well Rey Solo or Rey Skywalker means she wouldnt have earned it...Well she didn't earn it anyway. She is a slave and yet she can speak a dozen languages, an expert pilot, skilled martials artist, genius mechanic, and force prodigy while inhering the Falcon, Chewie, The Skywalker Saber, and R2-D2? So she got everything I assume and learned all her skills with as much training as she got in the Force I assume so 1 week? 2 weeks? She is 100% self taught but such retcons are okay “Will of the Force” Who needs training.
"rian killed luke to give rey his legacy. they really did that." meanwhile he could have just followed through with what JJ set up in TFA and confirmed ReySky and then she would have BEEN the HEIR to the Skywalker legacy anyway. ugh.
yeah but instead she just gets handed it because she just happened to be at the right place at the right time? “all is as the force wills it” I guess but it seems so cheap to just give the skywalker legacy away like that for no actual reason.
Eh I have read before that Oscar really doesnt like promoting movies he doesnt have a major role in so I hope most of his stuff didnt end up on the cutting room floor although he is also a pretty busy actor...but my mind of late when it comes to TLJ jumps to the negative answer
I honestly dont know how he does it...I can usually take a lot and remain calm but all this shit I go nuclear...however guys tomorrow at around 12:00 PM when the embargo lifts, I believe will all wish some whitewashed Finn Poe Art was our biggest complaint.
Y'all really sharing that ashy whitewashed finnpoe art pic from the premiere like it’s something to be proud of 🙄🙄
All must be sacrificed for Kylo Ren.
tlj is nothing short of character assassination for almost every single character.
No Finn, No Poe, Only A Little Rose from what I seen on twitter....RJ is Genius though apparently for putting the focus on the White Male Mass Murderer and making the Force White Only while dumping all the POC in the irrelevant B-Plot that doesn't even deserve mention by almost all the critics. Consider me unimpressed.
There’s been jackshit about Finn other than him killing phasma. Spoilers my ass.
There was no way it wasn’t going to be Luke’s Fault. However, my problem is Luke failed twice. It his fault that Kylo goes dark to some extent which I can accept to a degree but I cannot accept that on top of that Luke does nothing to clean up the mess. He goes off to a random planet and sits around doing zilch while Kylo and Snoke rekt face. The same Snoke that goes down to Kylo fresh off a loss to an untrained Rey and Rey who has lets be generous? How much time do you think Rey has known she has the Force, 3 weeks assuming some time skips?
So an Akira style ending doesn't do shit for me to redeem Luke because really Luke should have been more then powerful to mop up Snoke and Kylo himself. He is only 50 or so Mace was about the same age when he threw down with Palpatine so don't give me he was too old like Kenobi and Yoda. Yoda also at least tried against Palpatine before running for the hills and Kenobi thought he had finished Anakin. Instead, we have zero indication that Luke tried to stop Kyo and Snoke at all until he goes godlike at the end. Which doesnt make up for what 5 plus years of not doing shit...
And thus there is no hope the Last Skywalker has killed not just 2/3rds of his family but the entire dream of a New Republic and New Jedi Order as well. And you know what is worse? A large swath of the fandom will still want him to get redeemed (Not Vader), a full on happy ending making super force babies with Rey.
I feel bad for George Lucas quite frankly. They are even retconning the Chosen One Prophecy and making fundamental changes to the Force. Who the fuck do KK a supposed friend of George and RJ think they are?
So basically: The Force Awakens was "Han's movie" and he died. The Last Jedi is Luke's movie and apparently he dies. Episode IX would be Leia's movie and she would be die?
Hi Anon,
Well, it certainly looks that way, doesn’t it?
George’s original idea, as I have read, was that Luke, Han and Leia would be supporting the main players, who were their kids. (or at least Han and Leia’s - I’m not sure I’ve read what Luke was doing in all this but….)
Then JJ arrived, threw out pretty much everything, and decided that Luke, Han and Leia should get a “fitting sendoff.”
Now, if you can explain to me how breaking up Han and Leia’s marriage, making their only child a Dark Sider, destroying Luke’s school and sending him off to be a hermit, then killing Han for nothing is a “fitting sendoff” then I think you should write Episode 9.
Because, yes, it looks now that Han dies in 8 for no damn good reason at all other than it’s the third act of a New Hope reboot and he’s oldest male lead so he goes down (or he’s “sexy luggage” according to JJ.). Because, and I stg I read this from some fan review, “Han and Leia should be crucified because of Kylo.”
Yeah, so, there’s that.
I guess Luke will be blamed for Kylo - Mark is quoted in this week’s print Entertainment Weekly that there will be flashbacks and that the movie deals with the fallout of Luke thinking Kylo is the Chosen One. Which why tf Luke would even know the prophecy or care or NOT THINK IT’S HIS DAD when I’m sure Obi Wan would have told him is beyond me.
I would hope that Leia would have gotten a kinder fate in 9, but considering murder by your own child after your life is destroyed is called a “fitting sendoff” then I doubt it.
I don’t know, Anon. I mean, okay, they could have killed Luke, Han and Leia. I would not have been surprised.
But they could have left them together. Have them go out together, taking on the First Order so that Rey and Finn and Poe could win the day.
What if Luke does live till 9? What’s he got? Han’s dead, Leia’s dead, his whole life in ruins…yeah.
Thanks, Anon
Indeed Spoilers would be nice. Cannot wait to read. I am especially interested in what the team looks like.
